You may be asking yourself, “Do I need a visa to travel to China?” or “What are the documents needed to travel to China?”  You do need a Chinese visa before you can enter China.  Applying for a China Visa is quite easy. You need to get a passport-quality photograph for the application, and gather some extra information for the application:

• Address and phone number of where you are going to be staying.
• Address and phone number of a contact in China.
• Address and phone number of your employer or school.
• An idea of your entry date, how long you are going to stay, which cities you are going to visit and their order, and whether or not you are going to leave and enter the country again.

If you don’t have all that information, apply anyways. I did not provide contact information for the employer/school, since I am self-employed, and I had no problems. I imagine that it should be possible to apply for the visa without a contact in China.

I applied with the China Visa Application Form, which you can print and fill out. There will also be copies of the form at the local China consulate. This form is up to date as of March 2008.
